Spring is starting to show across Floyd County, and Floyd County Conservation Naturalist Heidi Reams joined us to talk about what’s popping up and what’s coming up. Heidi highlights early spring wildflowers like spring beauties, anemones, and pasque flowers now blooming in local woods and prairies, along with several upcoming outdoor events including a wildflower hike and nature journaling opportunity at Tosanak Recreation Area. She also shares details on campground season opening at the end of April and how to reserve your spot now. Plus, there’s a big milestone celebration on the way, as the Fossil & Prairie Center marks its 25th anniversary with a special open house and PBS “Road Trip Iowa” premiere event.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
