Endowment Honors Life, Legacy of North Iowa Educator, Coach

A new endowment fund has been established to honor the life and legacy of longtime north Iowa educator and coach who passed away earlier this year.
In coordination with the Floyd County Community Foundation, the Kent and Sarah Shultz Family Endowment Fund will support scholarships for graduating seniors from the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock (RRMR) Community School District, helping them pursue their educational and career goals.
Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa notes that Kent Shultz dedicated 35 years to education and coaching, including 28 years at RRMR, where he became a respected teacher, mentor, and role model. Known for his high expectations, fairness, and deep care for students, he made a lasting impact both in the classroom and through athletics.
A native of Greene, Shultz began his coaching career at his alma mater before teaching at Kee High School in Lansing, where he met his wife, Sarah.
Throughout his career, Shultz taught history, government, and geography while coaching multiple sports. He led RRMR’s varsity girls’ basketball program for more than a decade, emphasizing hard work, respect, and perseverance.
Shultz was known for the life lessons he shared, including his belief that attitude shapes outcomes. After retiring in 2021, he remained active in his community and devoted time to his family, especially his grandchildren.
His family shares, “This fund is a way to give back to the school and community he cared so deeply about, and to continue supporting students as they work toward their dreams.”
