Robert “Stew” Stewart, 78, of Ionia,

Robert “Stew” Stewart, 78, of Ionia, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at home with his family by his side.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at The Pub on the Cedar, 101 N Jackson St, Charles City, IA 50616.

Robert Arthur Stewart, the son of Truman and Juanita (Raymond) Stewart, was born on December 17, 1947, in Osage, Iowa. He attended school in Floyd and graduated from Charles City High School in 1966. Stew was united in marriage to Vernette Bunn on November 29, 1969, at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd.

Stew was a very hard worker and worked for White Farm until its closing. He then worked for Allied until his retirement. His motto was “work first, play later”. Stew loved the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed fishing at Red Wing, camping, hunting, gardening, riding motorcycles and birdwatching. Above everything, Stew loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Vernette Stewart; sons, Dustin (Jen) Stewart of Byron, Minnesota, and Nickolas Stewart of Southampton, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Kaiden, Mikayla, Alexandria, and Naomi; siblings: Randall (Barbara) Stewart, Amy Lou (Thomas) Hagarty, and Brent (Karin) Stewart; sister-in-law, Linda (Gary) Gerritson; and brother-in-law, Steve (Michelle) Bunn; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Juanita Stewart; parents-in-law, Mason and Phyllis Bunn; and sister-in-law, Cherri (Dennis) Bonwell.

Stew’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff and Cedar Valley Hospice for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Cedar Valley Hospice or American Leukemia Association.

Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home, (641) 228-2323, 1205 South Main Street, Charles City, Iowa 50616 is in charge of local arrangements.  Online condolences may be left on the Tribute Wall for the family at www.hauserfh.com.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
