Laurie Kristiansen with the Community Pantry in Nashua and Jen Burton with the Floyd County Food Pantry joined Community Conversations to discuss upcoming World Hunger Day open houses planned for Thursday, May 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at both pantry locations. The conversation focused on food insecurity across Floyd and Chickasaw Counties, volunteer opportunities, food rescue partnerships with local businesses, and how area residents can access pantry services and assistance. Kristiansen and Burton also highlighted the growing need for donations and community support as both pantries continue serving families throughout Northeast Iowa.

Community Pantry in Nashua is located inside St. John Lutheran Church at 300 Merrill Street while the Floyd County Food Pantry is located at 102 North Main Street in Charles City. Community members are invited to attend the May 28 open houses to tour the facilities, meet volunteers, and learn more about local hunger relief efforts.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
