Charles City, New Hampton Pools to Open Memorial Day, Fredericksburg Pool Will Not

With temps expected in the low-to-mid-80s this Monday (05.25), the Charles City and New Hampton municipal swimming pools are on track for Memorial Day season openings.

At Lions Field Pool in Charles City, after Monday’s initial opening, the pool will be closed until Thursday (05.28) when kids are out of school and lifeguards can work. 

At New Hampton for opening week, pool hours are 3 PM to 7 PM on Memorial Day, plus Tuesday (05.26) and Wednesday (05.27), with no Adult Swim those days. Pool hours Thursday (05.28) and Friday (05.29) include Adult Swim from noon to 1:30 PM, followed by Public Swim until 7 PM. On Saturday, May 30th, the pool is open from noon to 5 PM. The splash pad will also open Monday.

One pool not opening on Memorial Day or at any point this season is the Fredericksburg municipal swimming pool. Park-Rec Director Misty Prosser says the pool needs repairs to the extent, the pool will not open in 2026.

City officials announced the pool closure for the season in early April, which Prosser says was a difficult call they didn’t want to make.

The plan is to make this season’s closure a “one off.”

Prosser says pool repairs, which could cost upwards of $400,000, will extend the life of the almost 50-year-old pool by at least another 20 years.
