Chickasaw Co. Supervisors Consider Building Improvements, Consolidation 

Building improvements and building consolidation were discussed this week by the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors.

During Tuesday’s (05.26) regular meeting, Supervisors opened bids for the replacing windows at the Chickasaw County Courthouse in New Hampton.

That’s Board Chair Jacob Hackman as Supervisors contemplated project bids ranging from about $800,000 to upwards of $1 million. No contract was awarded, with a public hearing anticipated for next Monday to allow public comment and to give County Engineer Roman Lensing more time to review the bids closer.

It was estimated the windows were last replaced in the Courthouse was the late 1970s to early 80s. The building opened in 1929.

Supervisors also discussed consolidating buildings for County offices.

Hackman said one target for possible sale is the LEMC on South Linn Avenue in New Hampton, currently home to the County Attorney’s office and Emergency Management Agency.

Head custodian Dave Gorman suggested several offices could move into the Heritage building on the south side of New Hampton.

Hackman agreed.

No decisions were made, with Supervisor Scott Cerwinske recommending that the County have a comprehensive plan in place to accommodate making any proposed office relocations happen together.
