City of New Hampton City to Borrow More Money to Complete Design for New Waste Water Plant

A public hearing on the borrowing of almost $1.5 million towards the design of a new waste water plant is on agenda for Monday (06.01) night’s meeting of the New Hampton City Council.
In June 2021, the City of New Hampton entered into an agreement with the lowa Finance Authority for a Sewer Revenue Loan and Disbursement Agreement for an initial loan of $1.37 million for the planning and design phase of the plant. However, additional funding is needed prior to the estimated completion date of November 2026 for the final design phase.
During the May 18th Council meeting, Public Works Director Casey Mai explained how costs for the wastewater treatment facility have gone up.
Mai identified one specific area in which costs have jumped in the past five years.
The City is requesting an additional $1.44 million at 0% interest rate to complete the final design.
The Council must hold a public hearing before passing a resolution to approve the loan. The Council meeting begins at 7 PM at City Hall.
Also on the agenda, possible approval to hire a new police officer.
