A GoFundMe account has been established to help a Floyd County veteran who lost everything in a house fire last week.
According to the GoFundMe and a friend of the victim, Mike Glass woke up to the fire around 4 AM on May 26th He was able to rescue his two cats, and escape with only the clothes on his back. His home and everything inside was destroyed.
According to a social media post by the Marble Rock Fire Department, they provided mutual aid to the Rockford Fire Department to battle the blaze. Other agencies assisting included the Nora Springs and Rudd fire departments, Floyd County Search & Rescue, AMR Ambulance, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Rockford Municipal Light Plant, and Rockford Public Works Department.
The GoFundMe description reads that Glass is a “dedicated member of our (Rockford) community for 45 years” who “served our country as a veteran of the Persian Gulf and Somalia.”
He has no other family to lean on with funds from the GoFundMe going towards helping him secure temporary housing and replace the essentials he lost in the fire.
THe GoFundMe has a goal of $5,000. As of 2 PM Thursday (06.04), $295 had been raised.
