Charles City Challenge Whitewater Weekend Returns for 14th Annual Event

Paddlers, surfers, spectators, and families are invited to the 14th Annual Charles City Challenge Whitewater Weekend, returning to the Cedar River riverfront this Friday (06.12) through Sunday (06.14).

Held at Iowa’s first whitewater course, the Charles City Challenge has become one of the Midwest’s favorite river recreation events, attracting competitors and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region. The weekend features a variety of whitewater competitions and activities designed for participants and spectators of all ages and skill levels.                                                                                     

Competitive events include kayak, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), river surfing, and boogie board competitions, along with opportunities for open paddling and skill development. Newcomers are encouraged to participate, with clinics and beginner-friendly events available throughout the weekend.

The event kicks off Friday with practice opportunities and river surfing clinics for youth and adults. Additional clinics and competitions continue throughout Saturday (06.13), with activities taking place both on the water and along the riverfront.
