Charles City Seeks Public Input on E-Bikes, Scooters Ahead of Proposed Ordinance
COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS BROUGHT TO YOU BY FLOYD COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER:

The City of Charles City is inviting residents to help shape a future ordinance regulating e-bikes, electric scooters, and other electric-powered vehicles. Mayor Dean Andrews joined KCHA’s Community Conversations to discuss growing safety concerns and encourage the public to attend a city workshop to share ideas before any regulations are drafted.
The public workshop will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Zastrow Room at the Charles City Public Library. Discussion topics are expected to include sidewalk use, speed, helmet requirements, age restrictions, classifications of different types of e-bikes and scooters, and rider education. Andrews emphasized that the meeting is an opportunity for residents to voice concerns and suggestions before the City Council begins drafting an ordinance.
Residents interested in providing feedback are encouraged to attend Wednesday’s workshop. Any proposed ordinance would still require additional workshops and the standard three readings before the Charles City City Council prior to adoption. For more Charles City news, go to CityofCharlesCity.org.
