Surf Ballroom to Unveil Statues of Holly, Valens, Big Bopper Friday (08.07)

The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake will celebrate the legacies of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper this Friday (08.07).

The event will feature an 11 AM unveiling of three life-size bronze statues honoring the rock and roll pioneers whose final performance together took place on the Surf Ballroom stage on Feb. 2, 1959.

Friday evening activities begin with the annual C.L.A.S.S. Car Club Cruise around Clear Lake before ending at the Surf Ballroom.

Entertainer Pat Boone will host a VIP meet and greet starting at 5 p.m. in the Palms Ballroom. Fans will have a chance to meet Boone and receive an autographed copy of the “Three Stars Tribute” album before the concert.

Doors to the Surf Ballroom will open at 7 p.m. The album release concert will feature a headlining performance by Boone, joined by Mario R. Valens, Jimmy Angel, “Sting” Ray Anthony, Ernie Reyes, Sha Na Na’s “Downtown” Michael Brown and Jason Gutierrez & The JG3.

The performers will celebrate the music and legacy of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper through stories, memories and performances. The event marks the release of Boone’s Gold Label “Three Stars Tribute” album, a project dedicated to preserving and celebrating the music of the three performers.

After the concert, guests can continue the celebration with a sock hop featuring The White Sidewalls. The band will close out the evening on the Surf Ballroom dance floor.
