UWNCI Kicks for Kids Shoe Drive Benefits Over 1,050 Children with New Shoes

The United Way of North Central Iowa’s annual Kicks for Kids Shoe Drive provided more than 1,050 local children with a new pair of shoes to help them head back to school feeling confident and prepared.

The 2026 Kicks for Kids Shoe Drive included three shoe distribution events held throughout North Central Iowa— July 21st in Mason City, followed by events August 6th in Forest City and in Charles City, during National Night Out hosted in Central Park by the Charles City Police Department.

United Way of North Central Iowa CEO Jen Arends said, “The Kicks for Kids Shoe Drive is a great example of what can happen when our community comes together to support local children and families. Every pair of shoes represents a child who can walk into the new school year feeling prepared, confident and cared for. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s events possible.”

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, organizations, community members and volunteers, more than 1,050 children were able to select a new pair of shoes for the upcoming school year.

Volunteers donated more than 300 hours to the Shoe Drive, including organizing and sorting shoes, preparing for the distribution events, assisting families and children, and helping staff each of the three events.
