Rural Iowans to get resources to help combat radon

A $15 million federal grant is set to help rural Iowans combat radon exposure over the next five years. The Combat Cancer Initiative will put the money it receives toward addressing three components of cancer, including lung cancer and radon exposure. Jessa Ketelsen from Mitchell County Public Health & Home Health says “ This funding is a really exciting opportunity for rural Iowa. We know radon is a serious health concern in our state but for many families the cost of testing and especially fixing a radon problem can be a real barrier.” She goes on to say “ From a public health perspective, anything that helps make testing and mitigation more accessible gives families the opportunity to reduce that exposure in their homes and ultimately prevent lung cancer”
