Voter-Approved PPEL Means Almost a Million Dollars A Year to Charles City School District

Last week, voters in the Charles City School District approved the renewal of the district’s Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL).
Superintendent Brian Burnight says passing the measure will not increase property tax rates and just continues the same PPEL through 2040.
Burnight says the PPEL provides the school district about $960,000 a year for infrastructure expenditures, including building security upgrades, general upkeep, and school bus maintenance and replacement.
Burnight says PPEL funds also help supplement covering costs for the HVAC improvements in progress at the High School.
The PPEL required a simple majority YES vote to pass, but results showed YES votes for the measure garnered about 75% of the ballots.
