Possible Northeast Iowa School Threat Under Investigation

Authorities are investigating a possible threat against a northeast Iowa school district.

The Waverly Police Department says they received a call Sunday (09.20) night shortly after 7 PM in regard to a disturbing social media post that was being sent to students in the Waverly-Shell Rock School District. WSR,  Waverly Police, and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office worked together through the evening hours to investigate the legitimacy, intent, and the origin of the social media post.

Superintendent David Hill also released an email to all parents in the school district to ensure the message was being relayed.

WPD says, “What we can release is that a male juvenile was identified and confirmed as the author of the post. The student has no current access to firearms and will not be in school today (Monday). Further investigations will be handled by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.”

Waverly Police add they will continue to assist in the investigation and provide extra patrols at WSR schools Monday and throughout the week.
