Ag Matters: Prop 12, Packers Act Riders Await Farm Bill Floor Action

Last-minute farm bill amendments ruled out of order by Senate Ag Chair John Boozman will now likely be among those offered on the Senate floor when the farm bill’s finally taken up.

Chair Boozman ruled all farm bill titles had closed in August, denying Iowa’s two senators action on their last-minute amendments.

Iowa’s Joni Ernst on California’s animal confinement rules.

While Iowa’s Chuck Grassley sought an end to USDA’s delay of earlier Packers and Stockyards Act reforms.

But Chair Boozman’s denying two fellow Republicans their chance had a broader purpose. North Dakota’s John Hoeven.

Something that Hoeven suggested would not be a good idea, especially since this Congress is ending and may be the last chance the GOP has with control of both chambers to write its own farm bill.
