Minnesota Man Charged in Northeast Iowa Murder Over 30 Years Ago

More than three decades after the alleged crime, a Minnesota man has been arrested in connection with a northeast Iowa murder investigation.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office has charged 59-year old Kelly Grant of Bertha, Minnesota, with first-degree murder in the death of Angela Renee Buck of Waterloo. On August 11, 1995, authorities received a report that turtle hunters found a body in rural Black Hawk County, east of Waterloo, in the 900 block of Pilot Grove Road.  There, a woman was found dead lying along the creek bank on the east side of the bridge.

An autopsy by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the 37-year-old Buck died from a gunshot wound. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Over the years, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office worked with several agencies to investigate leads in the case. Those agencies included the Iowa DCI, the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office, and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office Cold Case Unit.

Sheriff’s deputies and DCI agents made the arrest of Grant, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time.
