USDA Invests $86.6 Million in Specialty Crop Industry

As part of a nationwide $86.6 million initiative, Iowa specialty crop producers are benefiting directly from over $435,000 in federal grant funding.
Administered through the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, thirteen local projects will receive backing to strengthen the state’s agricultural diversity. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced that these grants will support critical research, farmer training, and market expansion. Key initiatives target local favorites like apple production, wine grapes, Christmas trees, and honey—partnering with organizations like Iowa State University and Practical Farmers of Iowa.
For Iowa growers, these investments protect crop health, advance food safety, and open direct pathways to get locally produced fruits and vegetables into regional markets.
