Contract Awarded for Charles City Million Gallon Underground Water Tank

Tripling the capacity of drinking water in Charles City took a $4.3 million step forward Wednesday night.

During their regular meeting, the City Council approved the lowest of seven bids received for the construction of a one million gallon, clear well underground storage tank, which will supplement the Cityā€™s current drinking water capacity of 500,000 gallons.

SEHā€™s Rustin Lingbeek is the consultant for the project, which was estimated at about $4. 4 million. He says the City received aĀ  lower-than-expected winning bid from Gridor Construction of Buffalo, Minnesota, because the company was eager for their business.

Among the other bids received included $5.2 million from Woodruff Construction in Waterloo and $5.4 million from Henkel Construction of Mason City.

No timetable was given as to when construction of the clear well tank will begin.
