Cost for Next Charles City, Floyd County AMR Ambulance Contract to Increase by 20%

Floyd County and the City of Charles City will be paying about 20% more for ambulance service starting July 1st.
The current contract with AMR expires June 30th, with the County and City subsidizing the private ambulance service by splitting payment to AMR of about $445,000 this fiscal year. That subsidy will jump to $530,000 for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, and go up by 3% for each year for the following two years.
Monday (05.18) night, the City Council approved the contract, which Councilwoman Krista Noah, also chair of the joint City-County Ambulance Commission, said will have to do, given their time crunch.
On Tuesday (05.19), it was the Board of Supervisors turn to consider the AMR contract, with Supervisor Frank Rottinghaus, also a member of the Ambulance Commission, proposing approval, with one stipulation.
Still, Rottinghaus acknowledged that previous similar requests have proven unfruitful.
Supervisors approved the AMR contract, though Board Chair Gloria Carr expressed her frustration.
Charles City City Administrator Tyler Trout shared Supervisors’ angst.
The City and County will hold a joint meeting next Tuesday (05.26) night to continue discussions on a possible ambulance feasibility study.
