Road construction season is in full swing across North Iowa, and there are plenty of projects drivers should know about before hitting the road.

In this Community Conversation, Chris Berg and Kay Winkelman chat with Pete Hjelmstad from the Iowa Department of Transportation about several major highway and bridge projects affecting the region. Pete provides updates on work in and around New Hampton, Waverly, Janesville, Decorah, Sumner, Rockwell, and other communities, explains how this summer’s heat is impacting construction, discusses Iowa’s new 60 mph speed limits on many two-lane highways, and shares why the 511 Iowa website and app remain essential travel tools during construction season.

Before you travel, check current road conditions, construction updates, and traffic alerts by visiting 511ia.org or downloading the free 511 Iowa app.
