U.S. Ethanol Production Drops to Eight-Month Low

As the nation’s premier bioeconomy hub producing roughly 28% of all U.S. ethanol, Iowa’s processing slowdown directly anchored a broader national dip in output. Nationwide production dropped to its lowest level since January—averaging 1.007 million barrels per day—primarily driven by seasonal maintenance across Midwest facilities, where total output slipped to 948,000 barrels per day.
Despite this temporary production pullback, strong fundamentals across Iowa’s extended distribution network cleared out excess supply. Nationwide inventories plummeted by 818,000 barrels down to 23.865 million barrels—their lowest point of the year—as domestic blending demand ticked up to 914,000 barrels per day and ethanol exports surged 16% week-over-week to 142,000 barrels per day.
