Charles City School Board Sanctions Girls Wrestling, Soccer

Wrestling and soccer will no longer be co-ed programs at Charles City High School.

The School Board Monday night approved establishing stand-alone programs for both girls wrestling and girls soccer, effective with the 2022-23 school year. Rob Pittman, formerly an assistant for co-ed wrestling, will become the new head girls wrestling coach.

Back in February, the district hired its first female coach for their then co-ed soccer program with Hayley Fransen taking over. When she was named coach, she said her goal was to start the Comets’ first girls soccer team and she’ll now get her wish.

The School Board also approved the hiring of Andrea Fuoss as the new head girls basketball coach. She’ll take over for Tyler Downing, who resigned the post after a winless 2021-22 season.
