City Works to Add New Hampton Police Officers, Up Pay

The New Hampton Police Department, operating down one officer since June, is about to have another officer leave the force.

Officer Braxton Rash has submitted his resignation to Chief Zach Nosbisch, effective October 27th and will become the newest deputy for the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office starting October 31st.

The police department has been advertising for applicants since June with little success with one candidate declining the position for salary reasons. New Hampton police officers, on average, are paid $2 to $3 less per hour than those of neighboring departments.

Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says they want to increase pay for the NHPD, and possibly other City departments, but it requires going through the proper process with the employees’ union.

In the meantime, Schwickerath wants to assure New Hampton citizens that they have a police department doing its job to keep the City safe.

Monday night, the City Council officially approved Chief Nosbisch to hire a replacement for Rash while the NHPD continues to take officer applications until the positions are filled.
