One Contested Chickasaw County Supervisor Race

While Floyd County could see an entire new makeup of its Board of Supervisors, Chickasaw County could have two new faces among its five-Supervisor Board to start the new year.

The only contested Supervisor race pits incumbent Democrat Jason Byrne of Lawler seeking re-election against Republican Travis Suckow of Fredericksburg. Byrne’s current four-year term expires December 31st.

The term of current District 2 Supervisor Tim Zoll of Ionia also expires at the end of this year, but he lost in the June Primary to fellow Republican Scott Cerwinske of Nashua. There were no Democratic candidates in the Primary, so Cerwinske will run unopposed Tuesday.

Zoll still looks to represent the County, but in a different role. He is running for County Recorder against Democrat Shirley Troyna.

Three candidates are running for Chickasaw County Treasurer with Republican Matthew Ysbrand and Democrat Keith Hoey on the official ballot. However, Republican Jackie Bohr has mounted a write-in campaign for the post, which opens when the term of current County Treasurer Sue Breitbach expires at the end of this year.

Other lofty Chickasaw County positions also up for election Tuesday with candidates running unopposed include David Laudner for County Attorney and Sheila Shekleton for County Auditor.

Laudner was appointed County Attorney in September of 2021 and now seeks election to keep the post another four years. Shekleton was appointed County Auditor this past August, replacing Stephanie Mashek who resigned July 30th. Shekleton also seeks her post on a permanent basis for four years starting January 1st.
