Floyd County Interchange Eastbound Lanes Slated to Open Tuesday

Despite a semi crash that closed the intersection for a brief period Monday morning, the new east/southbound lanes of the new Highway 218/18/Avenue of the Saints interchange at Floyd are set to open to motorists Tuesday.

Pete Hjelmstad with the Mason City District office of the Iowa DOT says that while the interchange will be fully functional for the two new east/south lanes, there will only be one lane for west/northbound traffic due an inside lane closure. 

He adds that there will still be a right hand turn lane into Floyd as well as traffic lights for motorists coming into and out of Floyd.

Hjelmstad says the speed limit through the construction zone will be 55 mph for traffic in both directions.

Reconstruction of the westbound lanes of the interchange will occur during the 2023 construction season.
