Chickasaw County Sheriff Hemann Retiring in January

After joining the department in 1990 and serving as its leader since 2016, Chickasaw County Sheriff Marty Hemann is retiring, effective January 20th.

Hemann says he’s ready for a new chapter in his life and is stepping down with the sheriff’s department in good hands.

Hemann told the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors this week that Chief Deputy Ryan Shawver has expressed interest in succeeding him.

Supervisors would have to appoint Shawver or someone else to replace Hemann, although anyone within the County could file a petition within 14 days of the appointment to call for a special election.

Hemann’s current term runs through the end of 2024.
