Students in Charles City schools will start classes 15 minutes earlier in the 2023-24 school year.
That’s Superintendent Dr. Anne Lundquist, who says another new feature for next school year will be a pair of three-day weekends following parent-teacher conferences in the fall and in spring.
Lundquist says the calendar once again factors in room for three snow days in hopes of keeping the final day of school on May 23, 2024.
Lundquist adds that if there is a fourth snow day, they would swap out the professional learning day on April 12, 2024, for a makeup day for students. If Mother Nature hits the school district with more than five snow days, Lundquist says “we’ll have to bite the bullet” and extend the end of the 2023-24 school year accordingly.
The School Board approved next year’s school calendar during their regular meeting November 28th.
