NEIA WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM CST THIS MORNING

National Weather Service La Crosse….. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM CST THIS MORNING.

Mitchell-Howard-Winneshiek-Allamakee-Floyd-Chickasaw-Fayette-Clayton Counties in northeast Iowa.

Mixed precipitation is expected to persist until late morning with total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up around one tenth of an inch possible. These higher ice accumulations will fall in a very narrow band along and just north of the Highway 18 corridor.

The NWS says the greatest impacts will likely fall in a narrow west to east corridor not more than 20 to 30 miles wide while locations outside of this corridor may see little to no impacts. In the affected areas, plan on slippery road conditions that could impact the morning commute.

TWO HOUR LATE START for Charles City Community Schools due to the road conditions and a power outage. There will be no breakfast served. Elementary school doors will open at 10:10 a.m. High School and Middle School doors will open at 10 a.m.

  • Howard-Winneshiek: Delayed 2 hours
  • MFL/Mar Mac: Delayed 2 hours
  • New Hampton: 2 hours late
  • Osage:  2 hours late
  • Postville:  Delayed 2 hours
  • Riceville:  2 hours late
  • Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock:  2 hours late 
  • St. Ansgar:  2 hours late
  • South Winneshiek: Delayed 2 hours
  • Turkey Valley:  2 hours late

  • Charles City Transit: transit is running, but they have no power at the office and cannot receive phone calls until power is restored
  • Charles City Senior Center:  Closed – no meals

**As of 7 a.m., MidAmerican Energy was reporting almost 1200 customers in Charles City and Floyd County were without power, but electricity had been restored to all customers by 7:45 a.m.
