Mason City Police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

MCPD responded to a report of a shooting and person needing medical attention in the area of 1st Street Southwest and Monroe Avenue just after 12:30 pm Monday. The first officer on the scene found a male who had suffered two gunshot wounds. Paramedics then arrived, provided treatment, and transported the male to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

MCPD says their investigation led them to a residence in the 300 block of 1st Street Southwest, where evidence was collected and statements were obtained from witnesses. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information or witnesses who may have been driving by at the time of the incident are asked to contact Mason City Police. They can be connected to Criminal Investigation Division Lieutenant Rich Jensen by calling 641-421-3636.
