Charles City’s Thomson Begins Term as Iowa House District 58 Representative

The 2023 Iowa Legislative session begins Monday (01.09).

Republican House District 58 Representative Charley Thomson of Charles City enters his first term as a self-described “62-year-old freshman.” He says his preparation has included picking the brain of former state representative and fellow Charles Citian, Todd Prichard.

Thomson says top issues for the legislative session include school choice, equity for rural areas when it comes to ambulance and other first responder services, and the debate over carbon capture pipelines, which Thomson calls for more than just regulation.

Thomson adds that he hopes all issues can also be addressed with civility at the statehouse.

The new Iowa House District 58 includes all of Chickasaw County, the majority of Floyd County including Charles City, and the eastern two-thirds of Bremer County east of, but not including, Waverly.
