19-Year-Old Killed in Weekend Northeast Iowa Crash

A 19-year-old died in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend about 10 miles south of Waverly.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred shortly after 10 pm Saturday (02.11) night in Black Hawk County. A Volkswagen Passat driven by 23-year-old Braden Williams of Holy Cross was westbound on Cedar Wapsi Road when it was struck broadside by a Chevy Cavalier driven northbound on Leversee Road by 18-year-old Ethan Roethler of Janesville. Authorities say Roethler failed to yield at the stop sign.

19-year-old Quincy Friedrich of Cedar Falls was killed in the collision. Roethler and 18-year-old Isabella Sellers of Lithia, Florida, were both transported to University of Iowa Hospitals for treatment of their injuries. 20-year-old Peyton Franzen of Tripoli, was taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

The crash report did not specify which vehicles Friedrich, Sellers and Franzen were passengers in. It also does not indicate any injuries to Williams.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Janesville Police, Fire and First Responders, Denver Ambulance Service, MercyOne Ambulance, and Black Hawk County Medical Examiner also responded to the wreck, which remains under investigation.
