State Qualifying Tournaments This Week for Area Bowling Teams

It’s state tournament qualifying week for area high school bowlers.

New Hampton is in the midst of their inaugural season, something Laura Novak with Bowlaway Lanes in New Hampton, where the Chickasaws practice, says was a long time coming.

Novak, her husband, Josh, and his brother, Chad Novak, purchased and took ownership of The Comet Bowl in Charles City at the start of the year.  Josh Novak says they have eyes on hosting their own state bowling tournaments.

The Novaks say they do plan on installing synthetic bowling lanes at The Comet Bowl down the road, but otherwise no big changes are in the immediate future for the Charles City operations.

New Hampton, North Fayette Valley and Sumner-Fredericksburg will be among the area bowling teams looking to advance to state from Class 1A qualifying tournaments at Legacy Lanes in Monticello.

Charles City will be among the competition at the 1A state qualifying events at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo. The Comets boys bowling team is seeking a ninth straight state tournament appearance.

Girls state-qualifying bowling is Monday (02.13) and the boys will go on Tuesday (02.14).
