Tuesday, voters in the Nashua-Plainfield School District approved a $3 million bond referendum for a new high school baseball/softball complex in Plainfield, while voters in the North Butler School District defeated a $12.6 million bond referendum to pay for overdue upgrades and improvements at school buildings in Allison and Greene.
Meanwhile, another bond referendum never made it before voters after Charles City Schools could not get enough signatures for a petition to advance a proposed $27 Million bond referendum to revitalize the High School, a building that hasn’t seen any major work done since it was built over 60 years ago.
About a third of the money would have gone towards the addition of a new 800-seat performing arts auditorium. But, until a permanent performance facility is built and with access to the auditorium at the former middle school building also unavailable, productions like the Charles City Middle School play this weekend had to be relocated elsewhere.
Lynn Bauer is helping produce the play, “The Enchanted Bookstore,†which will be performed at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City.
