March is “Colon Cancer Awareness Month” and Dr. Lucas Brinkman of New Hampton is encouraging colon cancer screenings on a regular basis.

Dr. Brinkman also adds that colon cancers are now being recommended at an earlier age.

Brinkman says you can screen for colon cancer at home through the popular, Cologuard, which is mailed in to be tested for its results. However, he notes that about 13% of the results can be false-positive  and about 8% false-negative. Still, it’s an overall accurate test.
