Groundbreaking for NIACC Charles City Career Academy Friday (04.14)

Construction of the new Career Academy at the NIACC Center in Charles City is scheduled to start Monday. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the project are slated for 10:30 am Friday (04.14) morning.

After first planning to build a new facility on the Floyd County Fairgrounds, school officials decided to add on to the south side of their existing Charles City NIACC Center, just east of Hy-Vee.

NIACC President Dr. Steve Schulz says supply chain issues played a role in the final site selection.

While the construction timeline calls for completion by next spring, Schulz says they’ll wait to begin offering courses to high school students.

Adding the career academy onto the existing building will eventually mean closing off access to the current NIACC center. However, Schulz says they will still offer classes at a location yet to be determined.

In addition to Charles City, the Career Academy partnership also includes the Nashua-Plainfield, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Riceville, North Butler, Clarksville and Osage school districts.
