Pay Raises for New Hampton Police Almost Complete

The City of New Hampton continues movement towards upping pay for its police officers.

Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says the latest action was taken when the City Council this week approved a Memo of Understanding with Union #2003 for NHPD raises to take effect July 1st.

Schwickerath says getting pay raises for the NHPD and, eventually, other City employees, isn’t a cut and dry process.

Of course, raises also have to fit into the City budget.

The City started pursuing pay raises last summer when officials learned that New Hampton police officers, on average, are being paid $2 to $3 less per hour than neighboring departments. Thus, the City needs to up its pay to be more competitive to attract and retain officers.
