Patricia “Diane†Houdek, 73, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00p.m. with a scripture service at 7:00p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Patricia Diane (Apel) Houdek, the daughter of Raymond and Patricia (Eustice-Snyder) Apel, was born on May 6, 1950, in Riceville, Iowa. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1968 and then attended cosmetology school in Mason City in 1969. On September 26, 1970, Diane was united in marriage to Gary Houdek.
Diane loved taking care of people and was an in-home caretaker. She also was a retail manager for many years for Houdek Flooring. Diane was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, crafts, and photography. Diane never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and made friends wherever she went. Above everything in her life, Diane loved her family and cherished all of their family gatherings.
Living family members include her husband, Gary; children: Christopher (Kristie) Houdek, Brandon (Emily) Houdek, Jennifer (Jason) Bro, and Keri (Andrew) Nelson; grandchildren: Carson & Chandler Houdek, Skylar, Jaxon & Isaac Houdek, and Maverick & London Nelson; siblings: Ellen Crawford, Michael Apel, Sandy (Tom) McDermott, Debbie Nelson, and Kathy Apel; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Pat; brothers-in-law, Dan Nelson and Danny Crawford; and great-niece, Alexandra Crawford.
