Nora Springs Man Charged with Attempted Murder to Change Plea

A north Iowa man accused of attempted murder and eluding law enforcement last fall appears ready to change his plea.
Last October, 40-year-old John Salocker of Nora Springs was accused of threatening to kill a woman in Rudd. Later the same night, while returning to the woman’s home with a rifle, he came upon a traffic stop by a Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy involving the victim’s son. Salocker allegedly fired the gun in their vicinity before driving off. After a short vehicle chase, he was eventually found hiding in a harvested cornfield.
Salocker initially pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, going armed with intent, assault on a police officer with a dangerous weapon, first-degree harassment, and eluding. He was scheduled for trial July 11th in Floyd County District Court.Â
However, on Monday (06.26), a plea change hearing was set for July 24th. What charges he may plead guilty to were not included in the motion.
