Deadline Monday for Iowa Homestead Tax Exemption Application
The clock is winding down for Iowa homeowners to claim an additional homestead exemption approved during this year’s state legislative session.
That’s Chickasaw County Assessor Ray Armel, who says applications must be received by Monday, July 3rd, since the normal July 1st deadline falls on Saturday.
Floyd County Assessor Brandi Schmidt adds that if applications can’t be filed in your county’s assessor office during regular hours, it must be postmarked no later than July 3rd.
Both the Chickasaw and Floyd County assessors offices will be open Monday from 8 am until 4:30 pm.
Armel estimates almost 1,500 homeowners are eligible to claim the additional homestead exemption in Chickasaw County, with about 950 signed up as of Tuesday (06.27).
Schmidt estimates about 1,700 homeowners could be eligible in Floyd County, with about 1,300 applications filed as of Tuesday (06.27).Â
Contact your County assessor’s office for an application form or for more information. The form is also available online.
