No Special Audit Planned for Floyd County LEC/Courthouse Project

While the Floyd County Law Enforcement Center/Courthouse project is getting closer to completion, when work will officially come to an end is still uncertain.

During a meeting of the Floyd County Board of Supervisors on Friday (07.28), CPA Scott Andrews asked Supervisors again about the possibility of a special investigative audit of the money spent on the LEC construction and courthouse renovations.

Supervisor Chair Mark Kuhn acknowledged that taxpayers should know about the costs of the project, but no special investigative audit is currently planned.

In 2018, voters approved a $13.5 million bond referendum for the project. The LEC construction was largely wrapped up by February 2022 when inmates were moved from the old County Jail on the fourth floor of the courthouse. A number of minor items remain before completion of the courthouse renovations.

Through various delays, the COVID pandemic and subsequent supply chain issues, the project is approaching five years in the making, with final costs estimated between $18,000 and $20,000.
