School Bus, Driver Safety on High Alert to Start School Year

Schools across the region start the 2023-24 school year on Wednesday (08.23).

Chickasaw County Sheriff Ryan Shawver says that means law enforcement will be on high alert for violators of school bus stop signs and safety lights.

Shawver says school bus drivers will also report violators.

The new school year also comes with a number of first-time drivers.

Shawver adds that student driving isn’t confined to just to and from school for class.

Shawver also advises motorists to take a little extra time before entering intersections, whether they’re controlled intersections or not. And, watch for students crossing the streets.
