A north Iowa man accused of attempted murder in 2022 has agreed to plead guilty to a pair of lesser charges.
Last October, 40-year-old John Salocker of Nora Springs was accused of threatening to kill a woman in Rudd. Later, as he was returning to the woman’s home with a rifle, he came upon a traffic stop by a Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy involving the victim’s son. Salocker allegedly fired the gun in their vicinity, then led law enforcement on a short vehicle pursuit, before he was found in a harvested cornfield near Nora Springs.
Salocker initially pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, going armed with intent, assault on a police officer with a dangerous weapon, first-degree harassment, and eluding. Â
In June, he filed to change his plea and on Tuesday, he agreed to plead guilty to assault on persons in certain occupations and assault while participating in a felony, both Class D felonies.
A sentencing hearing for Salocker is now set for October 30th in Floyd County District Court.Â
