Charles City Police Officers, First Responders Honored

A trio of Charles City police officers and a handful of AMR Ambulance first responders have received high praise for their life-saving efforts earlier this year.
On June 24th, CCPD officers Rhett Belew, John Jenkins and Hunter Ortmeyer were among the first to arrive when Charles City resident and former CCPD officer, Victor Dunn, was having a cardiac emergency. With their quick reaction to perform CPR, AMR staff was able to resurrect Dunn, restarting his heart five times in transporting him to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.
During Monday (09.18) night’s City Council meeting, AMR Station Manager Dawn Staudt lauded the police officers’ initial response.
AMR responders vital in saving Dunn’s life include Sarah Ashley, Josh Neupert, Cole Schmidt, Justin Schuttler, Skyler Sibbits, and Staudt.
Police Chief Hugh Anderson addressed the Council on the Life-Saving Award bestowed on his officers.
Anderson added that devotion is to serving the community and serving on the police force.Â
Dunn was present for the recognition at City Hall Monday night.
