Man Accused of Killing North Iowa Police Officer Will Get Trial Delay
A man charged with murder in the death of a north Iowa police officer last month will get a trial delay.
43-year-old Kyle Ricke of Algona is accused of shooting Algona Police Officer Kevin Cram to death on September 13th as Cram was attempting to serve a warrant for Ricke’s arrest. Ricke was found and apprehended in Minnesota about four hours after the shooting.Â
Ricke has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder, a Class A felony. His trial is currently scheduled to begin December 12th in Kossuth County District Court.
However, last week, Ricke waived his right to a speedy trial and his defense counsel filed for a continuance to allow more time to prepare for trial. The prosecution did not resist and a pretrial conference to set a new trial date has been scheduled for November 17th.
Ricke is being held at the Kossuth County Jail in Algona on a $2 million cash-only bond.
Prior to joining the Algona Police Department, the 33-year-old Cram was an officer with Nora Springs Police from 2013 to 2015.
