Charles City Man Wanted on Forgery Charges

An arrest warrant has been issued for a Charles City man facing almost a dozen felony charges after he was accused of forging checks worth almost $20,000.

41-year-old Ryan Vaughn has been charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony; first-degree theft, a Class C felony; and 10 counts of forgery, all Class D felonies. He is also charged with fifth-degree theft against an older individual, a serious misdemeanor.

According to the criminal complaints, Vaughn allegedly forged the signature on 10 checks belonging to a 66-year-old victim between August 16th and October 4th. The amount of the checks totaled about $17,000 and court documents state the two banks that cashed the forged checks lost nearly $13,000.

Investigators say the victim gave a statement they did not sign any of the checks, with the money from the cashed checks being deposited into Vaughn’s account.

Vaughn was scheduled for an initial court appearance Monday (11.13) in Floyd County District Court. However, he failed to appear in court and a bench warrant was issued Tuesday (11.14) for his arrest, with bail to be set at $37,000 cash-only bond.
