Speed Cameras Official in Charles City

Speed cameras have received the official “green light” to become part of traffic enforcement in Charles City.

During their regular meeting Monday (11.18) night, the City Council approved the third and final reading for the speed camera ordinance after a motion by Councilwoman Phoebe Pittman.

The City hopes to have the cameras in use sometime in January, but Police Chief Hugh Anderson told the Council there was nothing new to report on the installation of the devices.

Speed cameras are targeted for placement at the Charley Western Trail crossings of major highways in City limits, plus one on Gilbert Street. When they are put into service, speed violators will get warnings initially before tickets begin being issued.
