Suspect Identified, No Charges in Central Springs School Threat

It was a week ago Monday (01.22) that the Central Springs School District went to an E-learning day following a possible social media threat.

In a Facebook post January 14th, Central Springs Superintendent Darwin Lehmann said school leaders became aware of a concerning social media post in regards to the school district. Local law enforcement was immediately contacted and, while it was not perceived as a viable threat at that time, they opted to not hold in-person classes on January 15th “out of an abundance of caution.”

Manly Police Chief Aaron Pals says the investigation has been completed and a suspect was identified, however, there are no arrests or charges. He noted that “the social media posts in question did not meet the threshold of what constitutes a credible/imminent threat to student, staff or community members.”

Pals added that law enforcement worked closely with the Central Springs school administration and technology director to take steps to ensure not only the safety of all involved, but also provide an opportunity to understand and work through the information and situation.

Pals also echoed the sentiments of Lehmann that “the safety and wellbeing of all of our students, staff and community members will always be the driving force behind these types of investigations.”

Lehmann also commended the diligent students, staff, families and citizens who saw something and said something.

Central Springs students were able to return to in-person classes on Tuesday, January 16th.
