Charles City Senior Becomes Charles City Community Center

The Charles City Senior Center officially became the Charles City Community Center following ribbon cutting ceremonies Wednesday (01.24).
Board member Charlotte Nehls told the crowd that they look to bring in younger members of the community with the name change.
The Center’s Judy Hauser said the idea for the original Senior Center began around 1980 because a group of people just wanted to eat together and socialize.
The Charles City Senior Center would officially open in 1984 and the congregate meals continue to this day, available each weekday beginning just before noon with a $5 suggested donation for seniors over 60 and a little more for those under 60. Â
Also continuing are activities including pool, card playing, educational and musical programming, and Tuesday Night Bingo.
