Northeast Iowa Man Charged with Murder Remains in Colorado Jail

A northeast Iowa man accused of killing his wife remains held without bond in Colorado.

37-year-old Brandon Kasemeier has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife, Jami Kasemeier, in Waukon last weekend. Jamie Kasemeier was found deceased Monday morning by the Waukon Police Department when they conducted a welfare check. Her death was initially labeled as “suspicious in nature,” but is now considered a homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, officers had to force entry into the home, where they discovered Jami dead with “extensive injuries to her face.” Investigators said they found an empty handgun case and several fired .22 caliber cartridge casings at the home.

Early Tuesday morning, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brandon Kasemeier at a hotel in Loveland, Colorado, where he had driven in a vehicle registered to Jami and himself. Police said they found a .22 revolver under the driver’s side seat, believed to be the murder weapon.

Colorado authorities also learned Kasemeier was wanted on an Allamakee County warrant that identified him as a “fugitive from another jurisdiction.” According to the Larimer County Jail website, Kasemeier is slated for an initial  court appearance on Friday, February 2nd.

An autopsy will be performed by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner. The Iowa DCI, Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa State Patrol are also assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.

A GoFundMe account has been established on behalf of Jami Kasemeier. According to the description, money raised will go towards funeral and other expenses to help three young adults, ages 21, 20, and 18, who lost both parents because of this tragic event.

The fundraising goal is set at $50,000. As of 11 am Friday, over $3,300 had been donated. A link to the account:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/jami-kasemeier
